Granite is a complicated stone. Because it’s a natural stone, it has fissures and imperfections that must be considered upon installation. Granite weighs about 20 pounds per square foot, meaning that even a tiny 3ft by 5ft island could weigh over 300 pounds. Ensuring these heavy stones are set correctly between walls or levels along your cabinets is essential to ensure they don’t crack or chip later.

Getting those seams right also takes special tools, guaranteeing that the seams are tight and each piece transitions to the other perfectly. We install granite and quartz daily, so while we may make it look easy, we don’t recommend installing it yourself.
